CIRCUITO OFF 2024 WINNERS

CALL FOR ENTRIES

1. PROMOTING ENTITY

The CIRCUITO OFF is the free and independent section of NARNIMMAGINARIA, born from the spontaneous initiative of individuals.

“CROSSING HUMAN LANDSCAPES”—beyond being a theme—aims to be a space within NARNIMMAGINARIA where both professional and amateur photographers can showcase their talent.

The promoter of the competition is SATOR APS, organizer of NARNIMMAGINARIA.

2. THEMES

For this tenth edition, the organization has chosen to propose THREE THEMES.

FIRST THEME
“CROSSING HUMAN LANDSCAPES”

Human beings exert such a strong influence on landscapes—whether inner or outer—that they become, directly or indirectly, the main actor in their image, living within them and transforming them according to their needs.

Can we perhaps say that humankind is the landscape? Certainly, we inhabit it in a dynamic relationship with everything around us and with the experiences we live through. Certainly, we are a part of it.

To explore humans who live and change—and who, as protagonists, inhabit or transform landscapes—means tracing the footprints they leave behind in places, where the dreams of those who imagined them are deposited.

But the concept of “human landscape” can go further.

Crossing human landscapes means venturing into the invisible territories of people: their stories, their emotions. It is a journey that goes beyond the surface, beyond appearances, where every encounter is a stop along the way, every gaze an open horizon.

Today more than ever, in an era of great transformation, photography can become a tool for deep observation—one capable of restoring complexity without simplification, leaving room for questions more than answers.

SECOND THEME
“THE THIN RED LINE – VISIONS AT THE LIMIT”

There is a thin red line that separates the sane from the insane.
There is a thin red line that separates heaven from hell, life from death.
There is a thin red line that separates good from evil, peace from war.
Or rather—there was a thin red line, and now it is gone.

Gregory Orekhov

We live in a time when boundaries blur, dissolve, and disappear.
That thin red line which once distinguished right from wrong, balance from imbalance, now seems increasingly uncertain.
Reason and madness, peace and conflict, truth and lies intertwine until they lose all substance.
Convictions turn into dogmas, emotions become laws, the boundaries between what is human and what is inhuman shift and fade away.

It is precisely in this fragile and contested space that the theme of the photographic competition “The Thin Red Line – Visions at the Limit” emerges.

We invite photographers, visual artists, and observers of reality to explore and narrate, through the lens, those delicate margins where the world changes direction.
Where balance falters. Where humanity questions itself.

What happens when that line is crossed?
Which faces, places, objects, or symbols express the tension between order and disorder, between meaning and chaos?
Where is that red line today—and above all: does it still exist?

Suggested (non-binding) themes:

  • Invisible boundaries (physical, mental, social)

  • Liminal states: madness, ecstasy, crisis

  • Zones of conflict (personal, political, urban)

  • Snapshots of collapse or resistance

  • The tension between migration, integration, and new forms of slavery

  • Polarization: the new, uncrossable red lines

THIRD THEME
“TRACES OF CHANGE – IMAGES FROM A TURNING POINT IN TIME”

We are moving through history as always—by living it. But these are not ordinary days. These are days of change. Within each of us lies a widespread awareness of transformation, a growing sense that something profound is shifting before our eyes: the environment, society, work, security, even truth itself. Everything seems to be in flux, and we—often unconsciously—are part of this journey.

A journey we do not entirely choose, but which is imposed on us by ingrained habits. We live in a world where the boundary between the real and the constructed dissolves, where reality is filtered and reshaped by social media, which through invisible mechanisms molds perceptions and amplifies divisions. In this context, recognizing what is authentic becomes increasingly difficult, urging us to dig beneath the surface of images and media narratives.

Yet, a conscious look at the past can give us the tools to understand the present. We can look back, observe the traces left on the land, and read in the layering of places the signs of social, economic, and environmental transformations. Cities, architecture, landscapes: everything tells a story—our story. A story made of overlaps, of constructions and deconstructions, of scars and rebirths.

The theme “Traces of Change” invites photographers, enthusiasts, and keen observers to narrate, through images, these signs of our time.

The goal is to document and visually interpret the transformations of the contemporary landscape, capturing contrasts, harmonies, fractures, and contaminations between past and present.

A visual inquiry that begins with what remains, in order to imagine what is yet to come.

Optional thematic categories:

  • Landscapes in transition

  • Architectures of change • Traces of the past in the present

  • Interweaving of reality and appearances

  • Human and environment: an unstable balance

We invite everyone to pause, observe, and document. Because only by recognizing the traces can we understand where we are headed.
